Therapy and Stress

The main goal is to restore or maintain the patients' psychological capacity and emotional state from what they experienced from the impact of the significant or duration of stress.

The goals of the patients:

  • Stabilize their psychological state

  • Look into their internal reservations about their traumatic situations

  • Reflect on ones own unconscious states and the determinations of ones behavior

  • Look into their life goals. Do they need to do some rethinking or renew any healthy interests

  • Try to reintroduce them to being social, taking into account their own individualization.

  • Restoration of their mental state and the functionality of the patient.

Take your time finding someone that you trust. Even though someone is a therapist does not mean that you have to go to them. Explore your options of who you would like to see, the therapist is not going to hold it against you if you do not pick them because in the end they are going yo want what is best for you even if that is not them.

Once you find the therapist for you they must help to balance out your emotions. During the process of reliving you experiences many emotions can be stirred up from it. They will ask you more about your personal life, your immediate environment is going to be a big help in your process of healing. Are those surrounding you helping or they causing more distress to your well-being. How's your work life? In some difficult situations it is best to limit your time working or even take a break from it so that way you can get into the right headspace during the beginning stages.

The patient has to make the choice for themselves for adherence to psychotherapy. At the end of the day it has to be the patient's decision. This decision that they come to will either determine whether they are ready or not to their psychotherapeutic work. Once you begin and start making obtainable goals, they can start the process of slowly making progress. Do not expect this to all happen in a couple hours of talking or even a couple days, the healing process of dealing with stress is going to take time. If you are willing to put the effort and time you will start to see progress.

"Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you, doesn't mean you can, should, or need to do it alone." -Lisa Olivera

"The truth is that stress doesn't come from your boss, your kids, your spouse, traffic jams, health challenges, or other circumstance. It comes from your thoughts about your circumstance." -Andrew Bernstein

Therapy and Antidepressant Medication

The benefits of cognitive therapy as well as antidepressant medication (ADM) are undeniable. Although most people would often opt for one of the two, the recovery rate of those with Major Depressive Disorder who combines cognitive therapy as well as ADM is enhanced (DeRubeis 2014).

Although the enhancement focuses on those with Major Depressive Disorder, cognitive therapy can help benefit more than just those with this condition. Patients are given a safe place to not only speak but to also reflect upon their words and experiences.

Apart from emotional support, these physicians should also be able to provide helpful information when going through certain stressful periods of time. Panic attack symptoms can resemble the likes of a heart attack and unless one has experienced a panic attack before or is familiar with the symptoms one would not likely know what is occurring.

Mental health is a rapidly growing topic and after the COVID pandemic, it has now become easier to speak with a professional as they now also conduct sessions online via Zoom, call, or other means. There is nothing embarrassing about receiving help and improving your mental health. As we increase awareness and break this stigma attached to therapy this will allow those seeking help to be more comfortable in doing so.
